Villa Summer Breeze, Antiparos

Antiparos is located in the heart of the Aegean sea, right next to Paros island and belongs to the Cyclades island group. Despite being so close to Paros island, Antiparos is not so crowded but has a cosmopolitan character. It is an ideal island for laid back holidays away from the hustle and the bustle!

There’s a sleepy, secluded feel to this place and there are a few places on the island that seem to want to stay hidden. Antiparos is a place to go if you want to experience Greek life at its most traditional, while having a quiet holiday in the process. You can certainly see why Europe’s elite seems to flock here when they want to enjoy a quiet getaway.

Aside from some of the typical experiences, such as eating Greek food and relaxing at the beach you can go diving or snorkeling or take a Boat Ride.

The island is famous for its beaches, so swimming is one of the best things to do in Antiparos. Antiparos beaches are mostly sandy with crystal clear waters, while most of them are within walking distance of Chora, the island’s capital. Saint George Beach stands apart from the rest. Many visitors report that this is the best beach to take in the sun and also swim. Not only is the water warm, but the beach boasts some of the best views of all the beaches on the island.

On the southern side of Antiparos, you’ll find the most impressive sight of the island, Antiparos cave, a stunning cave full of stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is very extensive, and extends at several levels. The lyric poet Archilochus of Paros is said to have left an inscription in the cave. In 1673, marquis de Nointel, French ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, visited the cave for three days with numerous companions and celebrated mass on Christmas Day in it. Later visitors who carved their names include Lord Byron and the first modern King of Greece, Otto. During the German occupation, part of the cave was destroyed. The cave was renovated extensively in the second half of the 20th century, using funds from the EU by erecting barriers, building adequate steps, installing lighting, security cameras and loudspeakers to inform visitors.

Chora, the beautiful capital of Antiparos is where the island’s heart is beating and also where most Antiparos hotels, restaurants, bars and taverns lie. Chora Antiparos boasts the traditional Cycladic architecture and is home to the Venetian castle and fortress of Antiparos. Its overall effect is deeply charming!
