The Artist’s House

This is a beautiful three level villa only a few steps from the idyllic port of Kamini. The residence was originally the house and art studio of the renowned Greek artist, Christos Karas, which after an extensive renovation in 2021, now offers extraordinary stays and personalized services to guests looking to experience the authenticity of Hydra with the comforts of today.

The property combines the charm of a traditional stoned house in Hydra with the personality of an art studio and the luxury of a premium modern home. It can be rented as a villa for larger groups or as separate suites, one on each level. Each level opens to a terrace with arty lounge & dining areas, ideal for a peaceful breakfast, sundowners or al-fresco dining overlooking the coast of the Peloponnese.

The unique layout offers several spots within the residence to isolate while reading a book under a lemon tree but also to enjoy a get-together summer vacation. The original artworks in the bedrooms and impressive sculptures at the terraces inspire a genuine connection with the roots of the residence while the contemporary design, delicate colours and eclectic furniture create a modern retreat for relaxation.

Ground floor. Two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms sharing a kitchenette and a large courtyard with a Mediterranean garden on the side and sea views. Sofa bed on this level.

Mid level. Master bedroom with en-suite bathroom with bathtub & shower, lounge area and kitchenette, connecting to an en-suite double bedroom with walk-in shower. Next door with separate entrance, en-suite double bedroom with walk-in shower. Outdoors access to traditional balcony with stone arches and a large patio.

Top floor. Double bedroom with sea view.  Living area with sofa turning to a double bed.
Two bathrooms with walk-in shower. Fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Access to a terrace with 180° view with lounge & dining areas.

How to get to Hydra

The beautiful tiny island of Hydra is located in the Saronic sea without space for an airport. There are many ways to reach it, all including some kind of sea transportation.

The island has no cars, motorbikes or bikes. Prepare yourself for walking and donkey rides. In some cases, you can use the sea taxis.

By Hydrofoil from Athens (Piraeus) | Duration: ~90 mins.

By Sea Taxi from Athens (Varkiza) | Duration: 15 mins drive to Varkiza from Athens International airport & 90 mins sea taxi ride (weather dependent).

Drive to Metochi, then Ferry or Sea-taxi | Duration: 3 hrs drive from Athens International airport & 20 mins sea taxi ride.

Drive to Ermioni, then Ferry or Sea-taxi | Duration: 2,5 hrs drive from Athens International airport & 30 mins sea taxi ride.

By Helicopter | Duration: 30 mins flight & 3-5 mins sea taxi ride.

How to get to Kamini Residence

From Hydra Port:

1. 15 mins walk (~1 km)
2. Sea taxi to Kamini port: 5 mins sea taxi ride, available to hire on your right side at the port once you disembark from the boat.
3. Donkey taxi: 25 mins donkey ride, available to hire at the port.

From Kamini port:

1. 2 mins walk from a steep path with steps
2. Donkey taxi: 5 mins donkey ride.
