Villa Kanala, Kythnos

Through the beauty of nature, the unique form of Villa Kanala emerges and is highlighted by the presence of a rock inside the villa. This rock dominates the space and hides a sweet story in its own monologue. Guided by the traditional architecture, we tried to keep the whole place unchanged from time. Those who pass through the doorstep realise that the traditional building of the villa was carried out with great care and love of nature.

Apart from the unique main features of the villa, made out of wood and stone , the furniture also, contribute to create an invaluable, warm and cozy atmosphere.

The garden, in particular, offers unforgettable moments of relaxation and serenity while listening to the bird’s singing around fragrant olive trees, lemon and orange trees, dates, quinces, tangerines, pears, peaches and figs.

Activities at Villa Kanala:

  • Pressing grapes in our garden
  • Kneading and preparing fresh hot bread in our wood oven
  • Make a spoon sweet
  • Visit to beehives
  • BBQ nights

Villa Kanala, Kythnos

History

Kythnos is a small Cycladic island with a circumference of 36 miles, an area of 99 square kilometers and about 1,500 people living in Chora, Dryopida, Loutra, Kanala and in Mericha. It is named after Kythnos, the mythical son of Apollo and leader of Dryopes who arrived in Kythnos from Evia in 14th century BC. Archaeological findings reveal the long history and strong presence of inhabitants on the island for centuries. Kythnos has many archaeological “treasures” that indicate the prosperity of the island during the ancient times, such as remains of walls and many temples dedicated to the ancient gods: Aphrodite, Apollo and Demeter. There are also several remains of castles and towers from the classical times.
