DESTINATION

Ialyssos

The Villa is situated 3 km from the beautiful sandy beach of Ialyssos. Ialyssos is the second-largest town on the island of Rhodes, located on the island’s north-western coast.

Ancient Ialyssos used to be one of three earliest city-states on Rhodes Island dating back to 1500BC.

There you will find one of the most important archaeological sites on the island on the hill of Filerimos, featuring the remains of the temple of Zeus and Athena, the remnants of the Byzantine fortifications, the 14th century church of the Knights of St. John and one of the 13 stops Jesus took to the road of Calvery, a path of Cypress trees with impressive shrines on both sides. There is a 70m high cross at the end of the path, with a steep stairwell leading to the top. Needless to say the views from this vantage point are second to none!

Rhodes

The island has been known as Ρόδος (Ródos) in Greek throughout its history. It was also called Lindos. In addition, the island has been called Rodi in Italian, Rodos in Turkish, and רודי (Rodi) or רודיס (Rodes) in Ladino. Other ancient names were Ρόδη (Rodē), Τελχινίς (Telchinis) and Ηλιάς (Helias).

The island’s name might be derived from erod, Phoenician for snake, since the island was home to many snakes in antiquity.

Rhodes is the largest and most popular island of the Dodecanese. Also known for having 300 days of sunshine per year, Rhodes Island is mostly famous for the romantic Old Town and the amazing beach resorts. The Old Town is among the best-preserved Medieval Towns of Europe, with strong walls, a mythical castle, paved paths and elegant stone mansions. Rhodes Island is geographically located between Karpathos and Kos and it is, along Santorini and Mykonos, among the most popular Greek Islands.

Rhodes predominant element is its medieval architecture and the many interesting monuments scattered around the island. The Old Town of Rhodes is a true gem to walk around, a beautiful relic of the past. The Street of the Knights, the Palace and Hippocrates Square are the main spots of Rhodes Old Town that even by name create great expectations to their visitors.
